Bookends are great gifts for academics and this pair was no exception. They are very nice bookends, solid marble with a perfectly smooth finish. They are heavy (listed as 10 lbs, and while I did not put them on the scale I believe it) and I suspect the hold books well, but I gave them as a gift so don't know first hand. The recipient of the gift was truly delighted! I thought the recipient would use them in his office, but he told me he liked them so much he wanted to use/display them at home in his living room instead. I have purchased several sets of bookends from this site and have been very pleased with them all so far.

The bookends I received were almost all one color and did not look like the ones in the photo. I was extremely disappointed as these were a Father's Day gift for my husband's new office. The corners on one of them were chipped and the box they came in was smashed so I had to buy a new box to wrap them in.

    The bookends looked like pieces of marble were glued together in a haphazard fashion and polished. They do hold our books and we would have been pleased had they been done with some kind of thought process. Since they are visible from the side which is OK, we decided to keep them.

          The desgin of the marble is on the flat side which supports the books. The marble design cannot be seen at all!!!! The angled side, looks like a block of wood with the grain. I would like a complete refund, please!

                  The drawback with the set we received is that each of them has very visible dirty-looking imperfections on the outer (public) surfaces. The color is as pictured in the listing, but these dark, spotty irregularities look like something you want to wipe off. I'm too lazy to return them but am disappointed at this price.
